You can change your search settings in Google Chrome on iPhone and iPad to control which search engine Chrome uses.

First, open Chrome on your device. Tap the three-dot menu, then go to Settings.

In Settings, tap Search Engine. You will see a list of available options such as Google Search, Bing, or DuckDuckGo. Tap your preferred option, and Chrome will use it for all searches from the address bar.

Changes apply immediately, so any new searches will use the selected engine.

Unlike the desktop version, Chrome on iPhone and iPad does not support adding custom search engines or creating site search shortcuts.

If your search settings change unexpectedly, review your device settings and ensure no restrictions or profiles are affecting Chrome. You can also check Chrome’s privacy settings to confirm everything is configured correctly.

If you're signed in to your Google Account when you save your settings, your setting stay the same in every browser you sign in to.

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, go to google.com.
  2. At the top right, tap your profile picture or initial.
  3. Choose your search settings.
  4. At the bottom, click Save.

Search in Dark theme on Google

In a browser, like Chrome or Firefox, you can choose your preferred theme for Google Search. If you prefer a specific color scheme for Search pages, you can choose to always use a Light theme or Dark theme. Search pages include the Google homepage, search results page, and Search settings.

Choose a theme on mobile devices

Important: By default, the color scheme for Search pages matches the color scheme of the device you’re on.

To change your preferred theme for Search on mobile devices and tablets, update your Search settings. Your theme settings save on all mobile devices and tablets you use signed in to your Google Account.

  1. On your mobile device or tablet, do a search on google.com.
  2. If you want the same Search settings across mobile device browsers, sign in to your Google Account. At the top right, tap Sign in.
    • If you find your Profile picture or initial, you’re already signed in.
  3. At the top left, tap More More and then Settings Settings.
  4. Under “Appearance,” choose Device default, Dark theme, or Light theme.
    • Device default: Automatically match the color scheme of your current device
    • Dark theme: Light text on a dark background
    • Light theme: Dark text on a light background

Tip: To switch quickly between themes, click More More and then Dark theme: On or Dark theme: Off.
