Depending on your default search engine, you may be able to control what appears below the search box on your New tab page.
To customise your New tab page, you must be signed in to your Google Account and use Google as your default search engine.
In some countries, you may need to manage your linked Google services to use Chrome history for personalisation and other services.
You can personalise the New Tab page in Google Chrome on Android, although customization options are more limited compared to a computer.
To start, open Chrome and tap the tab switcher, then open a new tab. The New Tab page will display shortcuts, a search bar, and suggested content.
You can manage shortcuts by long-pressing any site icon on the New Tab page. This allows you to remove or sometimes edit it. Chrome usually shows your most visited sites automatically, and these update based on your browsing activity.
You can also control the Discover feed (news and content suggestions). Tap the three-dot menu or the settings icon on the New Tab page, then choose to turn Discover on or off, or adjust your interests.
To change the theme, go to Chrome Settings > Theme and choose Light, Dark, or System default. This affects how the New Tab page appears.
Unlike desktop Chrome, Android does not support full background image customization or detailed layout changes for the New Tab page.
If you want quicker access to specific sites, you can add them to your home screen. Open the site, tap the three-dot menu, and select Add to Home screen.
