You can choose to delete existing cookies, allow or block third-party cookies and set preferences for certain websites.
Understand cookies
Cookies are files created by websites that you visit. By saving information about your visit, they make your online experience easier. For example, sites can keep you signed in, remember your site preferences and give you locally relevant content.
There are two types of cookies:
- First-party cookies: Created by the site that you visit. The site is shown in the address bar.
- Third-party cookies: Created by other sites. A site that you visit can embed content from other sites – for example, images, ads and text. Any of these sites can use third-party cookies to personalise content and ads, and learn about actions that you take on other sites.
Tip: Some sites may prompt you to accept or reject cookies.
There are other ways that sites can personalise content and ads. Features like ad topics and site-suggested ads in Chrome allow sites to show you personalised content. These features limit what sites and their partners can learn about you. Learn more about managing these features.
You can manage cookies in Google Chrome on iPhone and iPad through privacy settings, although controls are more limited than on a computer.
To delete cookies, open Chrome and tap the three-dot menu. Then go to Settings and tap Privacy.
Next, select Clear Browsing Data. Choose Cookies, Site Data, select a time range, and tap Clear Browsing Data to remove stored cookies from your device.
Unlike desktop Chrome, you cannot fully customize cookie behavior (such as allowing or blocking specific types of cookies) directly within Chrome on iOS. Cookie handling is largely managed automatically or influenced by system-level settings.
However, you can manage website data by clearing it as described above, which removes cookies and resets site preferences.
You can also use Incognito mode to prevent cookies from being stored during a browsing session. Open Chrome, tap the three-dot menu, and select New Incognito Tab.
For broader control, iOS system settings (like tracking permissions) may influence how apps and websites use cookies and data.
