With profiles, you can keep all your Chrome info separate, like bookmarks, history, passwords and other settings.

Profiles are ideal when you want to:

  • Share a computer with multiple people.
  • Keep your different accounts, like work and personal, separate.

What others can see when you share Chrome

Only share your device with people that you trust. If someone has your device, they can switch to any other Chrome profile on it. If they open your Chrome profile, they can see info like the websites you have visited.

ou can manage multiple profiles in Google Chrome to keep your browsing data, accounts, and settings separate on the same computer.

To create a new profile, open Chrome and click the profile icon in the top-right corner. Then select “Add” or “Add new profile.” Follow the prompts to name the profile and choose an avatar. Chrome will open a new window for that profile.

If you sign in with a Google Account in that profile, Chrome will sync bookmarks, passwords, history, and settings for that specific account. This ensures each profile has its own personalized experience.

To switch between profiles, click the profile icon again and choose the profile you want. Chrome will open a separate window for each profile, making it easy to work across multiple accounts at the same time.

You can also manage profiles by clicking “Manage profiles” from the profile menu. Here, you can edit names, change icons, or remove profiles you no longer need.

Using multiple profiles is especially useful if you want to separate work and personal browsing, share a computer with family members, or manage different accounts without mixing data.

For added privacy, each profile operates independently. This means bookmarks, extensions, and browsing history do not overlap unless you intentionally sync them with the same account.

Add a new profile

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, select Profile Profile and then Add Chrome profile .
  3. If you choose to sign in to Chrome with your Google Account, your profile name will automatically be your account name.
  4. Choose a name, photo and colour scheme.

If you choose to sign in to Chrome with your Google Account in this new profile, you'll be able to save your bookmarks, passwords and other settings in your account and access them on your other devices where you're signed in.
