You can control how websites access your location in Google Chrome by adjusting location permissions in the browser settings.

To manage location settings, open Chrome and click the three-dot menu in the top-right corner. Then go to Settings.

Next, click Privacy and security, then select Site settings. Under permissions, click Location.

Here, you can choose your default behavior. You can set Chrome to Ask before accessing your location (recommended) or Don’t allow sites to see your location.

Below this, you will see lists of websites that are allowed or blocked. You can add new sites or remove existing ones. To change a site’s permission, click the three-dot menu next to it and select Allow, Block, or Remove.

If a site has already requested your location, Chrome may show a prompt in the address bar. You can allow or block access directly from that prompt.

Change your default location settings

Important: On your Windows or Mac computer, you may get a notification that 'Location is turned off in your Windows (or Mac) system preferences'. To update your computer's location preferences, select System settings and follow the on-screen instructions.

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, select More More and then Settings and then Privacy and security.
  3. Select Site settings.
  4. Under 'Permissions', select Location.
  5. Select the option that you want as your default setting.

Tips:

How Chrome uses your location

If you allow sites in Chrome to use your location, Chrome sends information to Google Location Services to get an estimate of where you are. Chrome can then share that info with the site that wants your location.

Additionally, your computer’s operating system may also control location access. Make sure location services are enabled in your system settings if you want Chrome to use them.

In summary, Chrome lets you manage location access by setting default permissions and controlling which websites can or cannot use your location, helping you maintain privacy and control.

To get more useful information from sites, you can allow the sites to use your location.

Let a site know your location

By default, Chrome asks you when a site wants to use your location. To let the site know where you are, select Allow. Before you allow a site to use your location, check the site's privacy policy.
