Mwananchi Credit was reported in connection with allegations of unlicensed digital lending and extremely high borrowing costs. According to the reports, borrowers were allegedly charged interest rates reaching as high as 100% per month, raising concerns about potentially predatory lending practices.
Complainants also alleged that aggressive debt-collection methods were used against borrowers who failed to repay on time. These reportedly included threatening communications and public shaming through social media or other channels, creating additional pressure on affected customers.
The claims concerning Mwananchi Credit should be treated as allegations unless independently verified or established through the appropriate regulatory or legal process. The Central Bank of Kenya has warned consumers about dealing with unregistered digital lenders and advises borrowers to confirm that a lender is properly authorised before taking out a loan or providing sensitive personal information.
