SGR Tender Scam was reported as an alleged procurement fraud involving individuals who posed as officials of the Kenya Railways Corporation and offered businesses fake supply tenders linked to the Standard Gauge Railway project. According to the reports, the scheme targeted companies interested in government contracting opportunities.
Businesses were allegedly asked to pay between KSh 50,000 and KSh 200,000 as supposed tender processing, registration, or facilitation fees before they could participate in the advertised contracts. The offers were presented as legitimate procurement opportunities connected to the SGR project.
Kenya Railways Corporation clarified that genuine tenders are published through official government procurement channels and that businesses should verify opportunities before making payments. Companies are advised to avoid unofficial tender offers and confirm procurement notices directly through recognised government platforms.
