OPay Kenya Scam was reported as an alleged impersonation scheme involving individuals who falsely claimed to represent OPay. According to the reports, the operators approached merchants with offers of zero transaction fees and other incentives designed to make the registration process appear legitimate.
The alleged representatives reportedly collected registration deposits and copies of personal identification documents from interested merchants. Victims were led to believe that the payments and documents were required to activate official OPay merchant services.
OPay Kenya later clarified that the individuals involved were not authorised representatives of the company and that its brand had allegedly been misused to obtain money and personal data. Merchants are advised to verify agents through official OPay channels before making payments or sharing identification documents.
